You Are Important

You matter. Your opinion matters. You are important.

Why am I saying this? Because it’s fucking important. Excuse my French, but it needs to be said.

We can all feel shit about ourselves from time to time, and it can really bring us down. For some, we can become so depressed, our self-esteem doesn’t even exist. It’s shit. What we have to remind ourselves in these moments is that these thoughts we are having about ourselves are not true.

We believe these nasty thoughts, but they are not us. It’s a mean voice in our head taking over. How do I know this? Well, who’s noticing these thoughts and listening to them? It’s YOU! YOU are the one noticing. That means you have control over those thoughts and can tell them to shut up! You have control. You don’t have to listen to those thoughts that are bringing you down. You have the power to change them into positive and encouraging ones. Ones that make you feel good and ones that are true, because you are extraordinary.

We are all different and have different personality traits that separate us from each other. We have strengths and weaknesses that make you, you. We each have something to give that no one else has, and that is powerful. I know I needed to hear this when I was really depressed. I was lucky enough have the support around me to pick me up and tell me how important I am, but ultimately, I had to change how I was thinking. No matter how many times people tell you they love you, and that you should love yourself, it doesn’t sink in until you believe it. You need to let the love in and believe it. You need to repeat positive and encouraging thoughts to yourself and really believe them. Don’t let that mean voice take control. You are smart, you deserve to be happy and you are one incredible person. If you believe those horrible thoughts, just imagine how good you would feel when you believe positive and uplifting thoughts about yourself. It’s not narcissistic to feel good about yourself and tell yourself how wonderful you are. It’s empowering!

I just want you to know that if you are going through a hard time at the moment, or you struggle from time to time with negative, self-demeaning thoughts, it’s ok. You are going to be ok. You are bigger than that mean voice in your head. You can tell it to fuck off and give a speech about how magnificent you are because you can…and you are. MAGNIFICENT AND IMPORTANT. Also, you don’t need to be at your lowest to get help. If you are feeling even the slightest bit shitty, talk to someone. You’ll feel better for it.

With love,

Millie xx
